International Maritime Organization

A specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for measures to improve safety and security of international shipping and prevention of marine pollution from ships. It is also involved in legal matters, including liability and compensation issues and the facilitation of international maritime traffic.

Resources for Seafarers

Equip seafarers to make informed decisions about their lives and work by connecting seafarers with a supporting network of human services: including retirement, financial, and medical services, as well as translators and job retraining.

International Workers Transport Federation

Works to improve conditions for seafarers of all nationalities and to ensure adequate regulation of the shipping industry to protect the interests and rights of the workers.

Center for Seafarers’ Rights (from SCI of NY and NY)

Providing free legal aid for merchant mariners, SCI works to improve laws and practices that protect mariners and increase the safety and security of the maritime industry.

International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare

An international charity dedicated to the relief of need, hardship or distress amongst seafarers of all nationalities, races, color and creeds irrespective of gender.

International Christian Maritime Association

A free association of 28 Christian nonprofit organizations representing various Churches and communities working on behalf of the welfare of  seafarers.

 

North American Maritime Ministry Association

An ecumenical, Christian association of individuals and organizations involved in maritime ministry throughout North America, including the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Also assists in equipping chaplains with resources needed to carry on their ministry.
